Low water inflows worsen situation

Low inflows into the Prakasam barrage with no rains in the catchment areas of Krishna river downstream Nagarjuna Sagar project is giving jitters to the farmers in the 12 lakh acres ayacut in Krishna, Guntur and West Godavari districts.

Irrigation officials said, the water level at Prakasam barrage stood at 10.9 ft on Sunday with the low inflows. Of the 792 cusecs of water received in the barrage, all has been released to different canals. Around 506 cusecs have been released to eastern main canal, 200 cusecs to western canal and 86 cusecs to Guntur channel.

With this, ryots’ hope for a good crop this kharif has got another blow after the high court pronounced a stay on the release of water to Krishna delta from the Nagarjuna Sagar Project(NSP) on July 17.
