4 houses razed in landslide in Vijayawada

Four houses in Brahmananda Reddy Nagar at the Moghalrajpuram foothill were completely destroyed in a landslide on Sunday evening.

However, only one person sustained minor injuries in the incident.

According to sources, several big boulders rolled down from the hill near Brahmananda Reddy Nagar and fell on the houses at around 4.30 pm on Sunday.

Four houses were completely destroyed and two others were partially damaged.

The landslip continued for about two hours and the area nearby was filled with ash and mud.

The residents were in panic and remained unmoved for a while in shock.

Koligatla Venakata Ramana, who was injured in the incident, said,” I heard a big sound.

In fear, I ran out from the house with my wife and chidren.

A rolling stone from the hill had hit me on my chest.”

“I heard the sound when I was taking a bath.

 I saw several big stones rolling down from the hill with mud,” said Kondapalli Durga, a housewife.

 Meesala Sitamma, another resident, said that the house in which she took on rent was completely destroyed by huge boulders.

 Being informed, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation officials visited the spot and assessed the damage.

 However, the cause of the landslip is yet to be ascertained.
