Godavari still rising

The Godavari continued to swell on Thursday, prompting authorities at the Sir Arthur Cotton barrage at Dowleswaram to discharge over 12 lakh cusecs of flood water.

All the sluice gates have been opened to release water which is 3 ft above the full reservoir level (FRL) of 45 ft. However, inflows into the Sriramsagar reservoir upstream have not been very encouraging.

The inflow increased only by 1,303 cusecs on Thursday. The volume of water stored in the reservoir is 14 tmcft as against the maximum storage capacity of 90 tmcft.

The Kirshna river is flowing below its normal mark affecting inflows into the Nagarjuna Sagar and Srisailam reservoirs.

The inflows and outflows at the Nagarjuna Sagar were 900 cusecs and 1,243 cusecs respectively and at Srisailam, 5197 cusecs and 217 cusecs respectively.
