Penna submerges road

Following heavy rain in neighbouring Kurnool district, water from Penna river flowed to the road that connects Chittoor and Kurnool at Chennur in Kadapa district on Sunday.

As Penna river received 6,500 cusecs following rains in Kurnool, the road flooded for about 20 metres at Chennur.

Kadapa collector V Anil Kumar inspected the spot along with Roads&Building officials to take stock of the situation.

On the occasion, he said the construction of bridge over Penna river which connects Chennuru and Kondapet is under construction and will be completed in the next 15 days to provide safe passage for road users.

With the breach, people have to travel an additional 20 km to reach their destination, both ways, via Kamalapuram.

The earlier bridge which was constructed six decades ago was damaged and the construction of a new bridge is still underway.

To provide a safe passage until the construction of bridge is completed, the authorities constructed an approach road last year with an estimation of `4 cr.
