Sonia to send team soon for AP Congress overhaul
Even as senior Congress leaders are busy trying to guess what lies in store for them after a possible overhaul of the state government and party, the high command is likely to send a high-level team to the state after the monsoon session to study the ground realities and take the final call.
“High command has almost come to a conclusion that the PCC leadership should be changed to resuscitate the party in the state. However, AICC top brass is still contemplating whether or not to change the chief minister,” a senior minister close to chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy told Express on Monday.
According to this minister, a team consisting of Congress state incharge Ghulam Nabi Azad, overseas affairs minister Vayalar Ravi and defence minister AK Antony would visit the state after monsoon session of Parliament to decide on the change of guard, change of PCC leadership and the separate Telangana issue.
Meanwhile, as PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana kept himself away from Gandhi Bhavan on Monday, deputy chief minister Damodara Rajanarasimha and ministers K Jana Reddy, DL Ravindra Reddy and Bala Raju called on him at his residence separately in order to try and glean information on the likely changes.
According to one of the ministers, Botcha himself said that the high command has asked him to choose between being the PCC chief or a minister.
The high command is learnt to be scouting for a suitable leader to replace Botcha as PCC chief.
Though they had considered erstwhile Praja Rajyam leader Chiranjeevi for the post, they are learnt to have dropped the idea.
Though a close aide of Chiranjeevi said it was due to his own lack of interest, certain other sources said AICC president Sonia Gandhi was not impressed with his knowledge of the party state affairs.
