At a time when the state is reeling under severe power crisis and the government is mulling various options to keep the power wastage at the minimum, the IT and IT Enabled Services Industry Association has come up with some green practices to save energy.
In a letter to chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, the association has said that the IT industry is all set to adopt practices to save power that include replacement of cathode ray tube (CRT) with thin-film transistor (TFT) monitors.
The move can save 70 per cent of the power consumed by the industry, it is learnt. The IT industry also promised the government to extend its full cooperation to conserve power.
Chief secretary Minnie Mathew welcomed the valuable suggestions of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) to promote energy saving measures. “It is a progressive and proactive step taken by the CII and IT Industry towards conservation of power,” the chief secretary said.
She also congratulated the Indian Railway Board for taking immediate steps to avoid wastage of power, directing their staff in all railway stations to conserve energy.
The state government is also mulling several options to save power. It has suggested people to use star-rated electric appliances. It has also asked all the government offices to replace regular electric bulbs with CFLs and LEDs which would save around 800 million units per annum.
The other energy-saving proposals mooted by the government include monitoring and controlling the lights through Bristol Motor Speedway’s (BMS), utilisation of solar power and switching off the lights in sports facilities after 7 pm.
