PCC general secretary Gopishetty Niranjan on Sunday wrote a letter to AICC president Sonia Gandhi requesting her to direct the party functionaries not to hold any further talks with the MIM, which severed its ties with the Congress.
In his letter, he told Sonia Gandhi that the Bhagyalaxmi temple issue was a ruse for the MIM to sever ties with the Congress, which has some other political plans in its mind.
“The MIM created communal disturbances on the pretext of the temple row in the Old City of Hyderabad during Diwali with political motives and to damage the credibility of the Congress government in the state.
People believe that MIM joined hands with YSR Congres s Par ty so as t o strengthen its base,” he alleged.
Niranjan, who hails from Old City of Hyderabad, said that there would not be any benefit for the Congress by having any kind of alliance with the Majlis party.
“As a resident of Old City of Hyderabad and with my political observations for five decades, it is my view that Congress had never benefited from the alliance with the MIM. But, it was MIM which benefited from the alliance. Their strength in the State Assembly rose from 1 legislator to 7 MLAs because of the alliance with us.
The MIM even succeeded in winning one MP seat with our support,” he said. He opined that the state Congress leadership had acted according to the wishes of MIM leadership because of the alliance and neglected the Congress workers from Old City of Hyderabad all these days.
