Former Telugu Desam minister C Krishna Yadav has rejoined the party after keeping away from it for nine years following allegations against him in the Rs 3,000-cr fake stamp paper scam.
Accompanied by his supporters, Krishna Yadav met TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu who was on a padayatra at Alikhanpalli in Medak district on Wednesday.
Yadav was picked up by the Maharsahtra police in September 2003 on the charges of his involvement in the stamp paper scam.
“I will contribute my mite to bring back the past glory of the Telugu Desam Party. Though I had invitations from other parties, I wanted to come back to TDP only since it gave me the break in political life,” he said after re-joining the party at Alikhanpalli.
Maharashtra police had arrested him after obtaining documentary evidence on his involvement in printing fake stamps, foreign bill stamps, insurance and share transfer stamps. He was released from Pune’s Yerwada prison in December 2006 by which time Chandrababu Naidu had lost power and was in the Opposition.
In June 2007, a Pune court revoked the provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, invoked against him. There is one small case pending against him and he hoped that he would come clean in that too.
Yadav, who was a newspaper boy, rose to become a minister in the Chandrababu Naidu’s cabinet after the TDP returned to power in 1999. He was in the cabinet till 2002 and held the portfolio of labour when he was dropped.
He joined the Telugu Desam Party in 1985 and was elected as a corporator of the then Hyderabad Municipal Corporation in 1986. He was elected to the Assembly from Himayatnagar in 1994 and again in 1999 elections.
