All-Party Team to Meet PM Today on Brijesh Tribunal Award

An all-party delegation led by chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Delhi on Friday and submit a memorandum with regard to the recent Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal Award.

An all-party delegation led by chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Delhi on Friday and submit a memorandum with regard to the recent Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal Award.

The delegation will request the Prime Minister to render justice to AP in sharing of Krishna river waters.

AP would lose its right over more than 130 tmcft of surplus water because of the tribunal’s award, though it got an additional 194 tmcft of water as firm allocation, compared to the past.

It is feared that this would have a serious adverse impact on AP’s kharif cropping under the Nagarjuna Sagar project, irrigation experts said.

Stating that AP had filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court against the tribunal award, Kiran Kumar Reddy wanted the Union Water Resources Ministry to implead in the case and protect the state’s interest.

Supreme Court had ordered that the tribunal’s award would not notified until the final verdict on the SLP was delivered.

‘’We will raise all these issues with the Prime Minister on Friday and seek the due share of Krishna water for our state,” the chief minsiter added.

Later the chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy will receive ‘’Best State Governance’’ award presented by a media organisation at 11.45 p.m.

He will also participate in a panel discussion after the award ceremony from 12.15 p.m, according to a release from the chief minister’s office here on Thursday.
