TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday once again dropped hints of his growing fascination with his old ally, the BJP. Addressing a public meeting here, he recalled not only his achievements but also those of the Vajpayee government.
Drawing a comparison between the living standards of the people under the present Congress-led UPA dispensation and the erstwhile NDA regime, Naidu said he was instrumental in pushing the latter’s prestigious Golden Quadrilateral Project that connects all the main cities in the country.
“We also wanted inter-linking of rivers and we will do it,” he said, hinting that he was looking at partnering with the BJP-led NDA in the near future.
“If my Telugu tammulu have mobile phones in their hands now, it is because of me and the NDA,” he claimed and recalled that in almost all the non-Congress governments at the Centre, be it the United Front, National Front or the NDA, the TDP had played a crucial role. “I will once again play a crucial role in national politics,” he asserted.
His colleague Kodela Siva Prasad was more forthright. He said there is every need for an alliance between the BJP and the TDP. “They (BJP) are also fighting against corruption and we have to join them, if they prove themselves to be secular,” he said. Naidu refrained from making any remarks on the need to keep the State united. While terming the T process unconstitutional, he alleged, “Bifurcation was mooted only to neutralise the TDP.” Though Naidu preferred not to utter the word Samaikyandhra, his party leaders did raise the slogans.
