SGT: Government takes a u-turn on B.Ed graduates

A day after secondary education minister K Parthasarathy announced that BEd graduates are eligible for taking test for secondary grade teacher posts, the government took a u-turn saying they needed more clarification from the Centre in the matter.

“The Centre’s letter on allowing BEd graduates to appear for written test for SGT posts lacks clarity. We have to seek clarification on this,” sources said.

They further said that since the date for the next DSC was yet to be decided, the state will clarify from the Centre soon.

It may be recalled that about 7 lakh B.Ed graduates insisted that be allowed to write tests for SGT posts.

Diploma in Education qualification is supposedly sufficient for SGT teachers, who teach up to class 7.

However, the DED candidates objected to the government’s decision of allowing BEds to compete with them for SGT posts.
