Shankar Rao’s daughter blames CM for drama

Cantonment MLA P Shankar Rao’s detention by police was an act of conspiracy by those whose corruption were exposed by him, the legislator’s daughter Sudhmitha said here on Sunday. She alleged that some vested interests in the government were trying to damage the reputation of her father.

She demanded an inquiry into the incident by the CBI and the CID which reports to the state government.

“My father had exposed the misdeeds of the chief minister and his brothers and that is why he is targeted,” she said.

Sushmitha, along with her mother Vishwashanti and others, told the media that vested interests in the government were trying to demoralise a ‘Dalit tiger’ who never had a blot of corruption in his entire 30-year political career.

“The Greenfields case was registered on November 9, 2011, but not a single police officer came to inquire all these days. But three days after a corruption case was filed by my father against a person in the High Court, the police raids our house. This shows the intention of those people,” she said, but did not name the person against whom his father had levelled graft allegations.

Sushmitha claimed there was a stay on the Greenfields case, but the police still went ahead to pick up his father.

“When a 40 to 50 personnel of Cyberabad police came to our house to detain my father, we asked them to give us two minutes to show the court stay order. They said they would go ahead with the detention even if they are suspended,” she said and added that the police made a mockery of judiciary. It is likely that Shankar Rao’s family will fight a legal battle over the police investigation.

Sushmitha claimed that her father was in no way involved in the case. “One of those involved, Dayanand, is my father’s brother. It is his business and my father was not a title holder or agreement holder of the land,” she said, adding that the kin of several leaders were involved in illegal activities like red sanders smuggling and crimes like murder. “Shall I attribute these cases to the politicians?” she asked.
