TJAC announces anti-Congress programmes

The Telangana Joint Action Committee has announced an agitational programme with the slogan: “Congress Ko Khatham Karo, Telangana Hasil Karo”, to build pressure on Congress ministers and MLA to come out of the party and stand by the people.

The TJAC extended steering committee meeting held here on Sunday was attended by all its partners, excluding the BJP. The party leaders said they could not attend the meeting due to the MLC elections work. The BJP also appears to be unhappy with several organisations in the TJAC extending support to TRS candidates in the MLC elections. TJAC district committee representatives also attended the meeting.

The meeting said the TDP and the YSRC, instead of showing mere lip sympathy over the Telangana demand, should come out with a clear stand by demanding creation of Telangana state.

During the eight-hour-long meeting, serious discussions took place on several issues and the agitation programme was finalised, keeping in mind the ensuing budget session of Parliament.

The TJAC would organise protest programmes various Assembly constituencies from February 16 to 21 to expose the ‘real face’ of Congress leaders. Because of the Congress leaders’ silence, the Centre is postponing decision on Telangana, the meeting observed. The TJAC has already given a call for political boycott of the Congress party and decided to target Congress leaders in the region in the coming days.

The TJAC would organise a 24-hour rasta-roko on the Bengaluru highway on February 24 and a similar protest would be held on the Vijayawada highway on March 2. “Peoples would camp on the national highways to demand statehood for Telangana,” TJAC chairman Prof M Kodandaram said, briefing the media.

The TJAC will undertake campaigns on February 11 and 12 along the Bengaluru highway and on February 27 and 28 along the Vijayawada highway for the success of the rasta-rokos.

The TJAC will decided the date of the Challo Assembly programme in the third week of March after the Assembly is convened for the budjet session. Kodandaram said the meeting received several suggestions and proposals to strengthen the Telangana movement and all the issue would be discussed by the TJAC programme committee, which is scheduled to meet on Monday.
