16 polytechnic students held for ragging

The police arrested 16 polytechnic students of the Sir CR Reddy College for ragging their juniors here Thursday.

Based on a complaint lodged by a second-year student, Adhikari Vamsi, who hails from Kamarada mandal in Vizianagaram district, police registered a case against the 16 students under Section 4(3) of the Andhra Pradesh Prohibition of Ragging Act, 1997.

Adhikari alleged that the 16 students were harassing juniors for the last few months.

The arrested include SK Farooq, T V S N Reddy, K Ravi, Yaswanth, T Dhanraj, B C Sekhar, M C D Sai Durga, G Srikanth, S Sai Prakash, M A Kumar, VH Rao, A Srinu, P L Kumar, K V Sekhar, M N Kumar and B V Pani. 

The arrested students are in the third or fourth year of electrical, ECE and mechanical courses. The students will be produced in court on Friday.
