Chiranjeevi's Son-in-law enters into politics, joins BJP

In an interview with Express, Sirish Bharadwaj speaks on a host of issues concerning himself, his family and politics

Sirish Bharadwaj, whoshot into limelight when he married Srija, daughter of Union minister of statefor tourism K Chiranjeevi a few years ago, joined the BJP on Friday. Soon afterthe event, he spoke with Express and shared his views on a host of issuesconcerning himself, his family and politics.

Excerpts:

Why have you chosen BJP, which has no strongbase outside Hyderabad, to start your political career?

I wanted to join theBJP because it is a national party. I agree that the BJP is weak outsideHyderabad but I see a bright future for it.

What are your political ambitions?

 I will play a keyrole in active politics.

Do you aspire to any post in the party?

No. I would like towork for the party as an ordinary worker.

Why did the BJP state committee not allow you tojoin the party at its state office?

The state committee was holding some meetings inthat office and therefore asked me to join the party at its city office.

BJP demands a fair deal for the fairer sex. But youare facing charges of dowry harassment.

I do not want to react to those charges as thematter is sub judice.

Itwas reported in a section of the media that you were all set to join the YSRCongress. Why did you suddenly change your decision?

That was only media speculation.Two years back I met Y S Jaganmohan Reddy to seek his blessings on birthday. I havegood relations with Jagan. I have good relations with other political leadersalso.

 Ifyou have good relations with Jagan, why didn’t you join his party?

 I did not think ofjoining the YSRC because it is a regional party.

You have differences with your father-in-law Chiranjeevi.Do you think that by joining the BJP, you will get political shelter?

I don’t want anypolitical shelter. I want to play an active role in politics to become a maturepolitician. Only the BJP can show the right direction to our youth.

Do you want to take political revenge against yourfather-in-law?

Heis the grandfather of my daughter. How can I take revenge against him? Mydaughter is with him.

Whatdo you think of Chiranjeevi’s politics?

He is playing a key role in national politicsand he has raised his political status when compared to other politicalleaders.
