Hardly 24 hours after the suspension of MLC and senior leader from East Godavari, Boddu Bhaskara Rama Rao, the TDP on Friday was forced to hand over a similar ‘punishment’ to its Itchapuram MLA P Sai Raju.
The charge against both the leaders is that they resorted to anti-party activities by teaming up with YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
TDP leadership suspended not only Sai Raju but also former MLA from Srikakulam K Mohana Rao and TDP Ichapuram Assembly constituency incharge S Venkata Ramana, who accompanied Sai Raju to Chanchalguda prison to meet Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Speaking to reporters, Sai Raju and his associates said they were vexed with group rivalries in TDP. Sai Raju said he discussed several issues during his meeting with YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. “People of his constituency my character. I am a not a person who could be bought with packages or inducements,” he said.
On Thursday, Boddu Bhaskara Rama Rao called on Jagan Mohan Reddy at Chanchalguda jail, with an eye on Rajahmundry Lok Sabha seat from where he wants to field his son Venkata Ramana. The Telugu Desam Pary leaders are angry over the friendship between Rama Rao and Jagan Mohan Reddy for quite some time now. Rama Rao raised the banner of revolt against party leadership after the pro-Telangana latter.
Rama Rao dropped enough hints that he would not stay with Telugu Desam for long.
According to sources, the real reason behind Rama Rao getting close to Jagan Mohan Reddy is that he wanted his son Venkata Ramana to be fielded from Rajamundry Lok Sabha constituency, but Chandrababu Naidu had told him that the seat has been reserved for film actor Murali Mohan.
Rama Rao, after it became clear that Rajahamundry ticket is out of bounds, approached YSR Congress with a request for YSR Cong nomination for his son, to which Jagan Mohan Reddy is understood to have agreed. In his three decades of public life, Telugu Desam Party has given Rama Rao key positions. He was MLA twice and State Planning Board vice-chairman once. He also held the position of Zilla Parishad chairman.
