Tension prevailed at the Guntakal municipality office here on Monday when a property tax defaulter abused municipal commissioner P Obuleshu in vulgar language in his chamber and assaulted him. However, he was arrested by the police.

According to information, Kullayappa, who lives in a locality near Regal Talkies in the town, has a property tax due of `19,000. On Sunday, some municipal staff announced his name as a tax defaulter and the dues near his house by beating a tom-tom. They left only after Kullayappa’s wife informed them that her husband was away for some work.

Knowing this from his wife, an enraged Kullayappa called the municipal commissioner on phone on Monday and abused him in vulgar language.

However, the civic chief tried to pacify Kullayappa and asked him to meet him in person to sort out the issue.

Wasting no time, Kuyllayappa landed up at the municipality office and resumed his verbal abuse, which ened up in a heated argument. In a fit of rage, Kullayappa assaulted the commissioner before he was rescued by the staff.

Later, the civic staff handed him over to Two Town police. Based on the complaint lodged by Obuleshu, police has registered a case and started investigation.

The municipal staff staged demonstrations at several locations in the town. It is learnt that they have decided to boycott their duties on Tuesday.
