Local body election: Botcha to consult seniors

Buoyed by the victory in the just-concluded cooperative polls, Congress state leadership is all set to prepare its cadre to do an encore in the ensuing elections to local bodies.

PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana will hold a series of meetings with party leaders from Thursday to evolve a winning strategy.

As a part of this exercise, the State Congress boss will hold a review meeting on Thursday at Gandhi Bhavan with party observers who handled the cooperative polls in various districts.

“I am holding this review meeting to know the organisational lapses that took place during the cooperative polls, so as to rectify them. The meeting will also help us know the strengths and weaknesses of the party at the grassroot level to prepare the cadres for the 2014 polls,” said Botcha.

He is also planning to hold a brainstorming session with party seniors here soon to take their suggestions to strengthen the party. Botcha has also decided to restart the process of holding regional meetings of the party to train them on publicising various welfare schemes of the government.

It may be recalled that the maiden regional meeting of the Congress, proposed to be conducted in Vijayawada last December, was put on hold as per the directive of the Congress high command.

Botcha said they would soon hold the meeting in Vijayawada, followed by more regional meetings.

VH Meets Botcha: Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao met Botcha Satyanarayana at Gandhi Bhavan here Monday and asked him to set up a committee within the party, with ministers and seniors to make a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) analysis to prepare it for the ensuing local body polls as well as 2014 elections.
