Engineering counselling dates soon

The state government is likely to announce the dates of EAMCET counselling in the first week of July, a month after the results of the entrance test were announced.

The process of announcing the counselling dates for EAMCET has picked up momentum with the Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (AFRC) informing the High Court on Friday that it would notify the fee structure for admissions to private engineering colleges for academic year 2013-14 on June 30.

With inordinate delay in admissions to the engineering colleges with no counselling dates announced, though EAMCET results were declared on June 5, some students had filed a writ petition in the High Court. Justice Naushad Ali asked the government how it proposed to resolve the issue. The government had submitted that the AFRC recommendation on fee structure would be notified on June 30. Further, a division bench of the High Court will hear the case pertaining to management quota on July 2.

Meanwhile, AFRC was busy all the day, preparing its recommendations on fee structure, which it had promised to the Court to notify on June 30. Sources said, fee structure for some colleges was yet to be finalised, pending some details. However, the the entire process is expected to be completed by Sunday morning. The committee has to finalise the fee structure for different categories of colleges and quotas (convener, management etc.,).There are some 700 and odd engineering colleges in the state, with most of them being in private sector.

When contacted, principal secretary (higher education) Ajay Mishra said the process was still underway and they would take a call on the notification of EAMCET counselling dates on July 2. In all, 2.01 lakh out of the 2.76 applicants have qualified for the EAMCET (engineering)) and there are 3.50 lakh engineering seats.
