Janata party president Subramanian Swamy has reiterated that UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi are not eligible for the Prime Minister’s post since they are having the dual citizenship and added that he would not allow Rahul to become PM at any cost, even if his party gets majority in the forthcoming elections.

Delivering a lecture on ‘Emerging political trends in India’, organised by the Rotary Club of Vijayawada Mid Town at AS Rama Rao Hall here on Sunday, Dr Swamy, who is a known bete noire of the Gandhi family, said that Rahul Gandhi has Italian citizenship in addition to the Indian.

He said that the person with dual citizenship is not qualified for the PM post as per the Indian Constitution and reminded that his (Dr Swamy) efforts had prompted the then President of India APJ Abdul Kalam to abort the attempts made by Sonia Gandhi to become PM in 2004.

Later, Dr Swamy told mediapersons that he would welcome formation of the ‘Third Front’ and added that the front would not affect the prospects of National Democratic Alliance (NDA). “Formation of Third  Front is a bad news for Congress,” he said. To a query on YSR Congress party’s prospects in Andhra Pradesh, he said that it (YSRCP) would replace the Congress and he, however, hoped that YS Jaganmohan Reddy would not merge his party with the Congress.
