Samaikyandhra Rasthra Parirakshana Samithi president Paruchuri Ashok Babu could not complete his address at the ‘Save AP’ meeting held here on Friday on account of the heavy rain.

The APNGOs Association president was scheduled to speak last but as he began speaking around 9.30 pm, it rained heavily disrupting his speech. A fully-drenched Babu said heavy rain was a good omen for the united state. He lauded the crowd for remaining drenched since 5.30 pm.

Not a bit flinched by the downpour, the crowd, mainly women, students and employees, glued to their chairs and cheered the speakers.

The meeting started at 4 pm and cultural programmes by students and others were held  till 5.30 pm. The main meeting began at 5.40 pm and, within a few minutes, it started raining. But people did not stir out of their places till 9.30 pm.

Every inch of the Swarajya Maidan was filled with nearly one lakh people from Krishna and 12 other Seemandhra districts. Blind teacher Gangadharam from Mylavaram, wrote a sang ‘Samaikyandhra Manadi’ on the spot and sang it to a thunderous applause. Many, unable to control their emotions,  ran to the dais and danced while the crowd below stood up and clapped. Even the leaders gave a standing ovation to the teacher.
