Jagan Promises to Tour Telangana to Campaign for AP

YSRC chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday announced that he would visit Telangana to drum up support for his party in its struggle to keep the State united. Speaking at the party’s second plenary at the YSR family estate here — where he was elected unopposed as the party president — he sought to address issues bothering the party, be it his perceived rift with his sister Sharmila, divisions in his camp or the party’s lost ground in the Telangana region.
While asserting his commitment to Samaikyandhra, he said he would tour Telangana even as a discernible effort was made at the conclave to downplay reports of a complete wipe out of the party in the region. Interestingly, at the party’s first plenary four years ago, Jagan had said he respected the Telangana sentiment but expressed his inability to either carve out a separate State or prevent it.
The show stopper at the plenary this time, however, was his sister Sharmila, who was conspicuous by her absence at party programmes ever since Jagan’s release from jail last September. Sharmila showered praises on her brother and overall, the effort seemed to be to dispel the impression of a rift between the siblings. In fact, she proposed his name for the post of the party president and was seconded by their uncle YV Subba Reddy.
The plenary was also significant as it reflected Jagan’s attempt to take everyone onboard perhaps with desertions weighing on his mind. Kurnool MP SPY Reddy, who praised Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy recently as a Samikyandhra hero, was also present on the dais which indicated Jagan was ready to mend fences.
SPY Reddy predicted Jagan would become chief minister in 100 days. He even said like YSR, Jagan would crush the T movement. For his part, Jagan said if he were made the CM, all the problems of the people would end in four months. He blamed the Congress and the TDP for his incarceration.
Sharmila eyeing vizag ls seat?
Is Sharmila going to contest from Vizag in the LS polls? YSRC sources indicated as much when they said the party wants to have a member of the YSR family in Parliament.
