The Union Home Ministry has reportedly refused to either elaborate, clarify or give additional information to the State government on the various clauses of the draft AP Reorganisation Bill-2013.
Sources said the ministry, in a missive to the Chief Secretary, also made it clear there was no need to propose amendments since what’s before the State Assembly is just a draft bill. The Centre’s assertion comes in the wake of a letter sent by the State government seeking clarifications on certain provisions. However, the ministry, it is learnt, has assured the government that all doubts and queries would be addressed when the bill is tabled in Parliament.
The Centre is understood to be gearing up to introduce the bill in Parliament in Feb first week. Since the President has given the Assembly time till Jan 23 to express its opinion, the Centre will wait till then. If legislators seek more time, the President might give them another week, sources said.
