In perhaps a first of its kind, TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu chose to spend the Sankranti eve with his school and college mates at his native village of Naravaripalli on Monday.
Naidu’s family members, who used to accompany him to the village every year, were conspicuous by their absence this time.
During an interaction with more than such 100 old friends at a local kalyanamandapam, Naidu and his friends went nostalgic. Speaking to Express, K Devarajulu, a retired fire officer, said: “Babu and I studied in the elementary school at Seshapuram and later we continued our studies at the ZP School in Chandragiri. In 1966 we finished our SSC.
‘’We used to go to school by walk though it was 7 km away and while walking we used to munch groundnuts as there were no chocolates. We did not carry lunch boxes because the food used to be packed in banana leaves.
“Babu’s favourite food was ‘pulusannam’ (‘sambar’ rice) and ‘perugannam’ (curd rice) and he used to eat seasonal fruits like Allanerudu, Parigi Pallu and Velakaya,’’ Devarajulu added. K Bhaskar Naidu, a college mate of Naidu and now a businessman, said he had made it a point to meet Chandrababu whenever he visited his native village.
‘’Babu is a social animal. Becoming a leader and serving poor was his passion. He was an active member in the Sanjay Youth Congress in 1978.Ipursued bachelors degree in economics along with Chandrababu Naidu,’’ Bhaskar Naidu recollected. While pursuing his Masters Degree in economics at Sri Venkateswara University, Chandrababu Naidu used to reside with N Subramaniyam Naidu, Sardar Basha and D Prakash Rao in A hostel of the University.
‘’We used to go to Deluxe Hotel in Bazaar Colony. NTR was our favourite hero and we watched his movies on the first day at I S Mahal, Jyoti and Mini Pratap theatres,’’ recalled Subramaniyam Naidu.
