Vizag District Admin Gears Up to Protect Govt Lands

VISAKHAPATNAM: The district administration has directed the revenue officials to gear themselves up for protecting the government lands now that educational institutions and other establishments are likely to set up their branches in the district.

At a special meeting with tahsildars, RDOs and special grade deputy collectors of land protection, district collector Solomon Arokiaraj chided the officials for failing to conduct a special survey for identifying government lands in their respective mandals, even after a year of his issuing orders to this effect. He told the revenue officials to administer their duties, according to the job charts, and immediately identify all the categories of government lands, besides setting up warning boards against trespassing.

He directed the revenue inspectors to pay monthly visits to every village and prepare a periodical report about the status of the government lands so the tahsildars can submit the reports to him every month. The revenue inspectors should also mention in their reports about land grabbings and details of trespassing, if any.

They should also prepare a mandal-level list, encompassing the old and newly developed layouts in the district, by July 15, he added. Joint collector Praveen Kumar explained that a lion’s share of grievances and complaints being received during ‘Praja Vani’ and ‘Dial Your Collector’ programmes were related to lands and land records. He directed the tahsildars to redress the grievances at mandal level as soon as possible, complete the land survey on a priority basis and update the Adangals.

The tahsildars were also told to prepare a list of court cases filed against government lands and the status of the cases besides submitting a report in this regard by July 17. Additional joint collector Y Narasimha Rao was present.
