Rs 3 Cr Collected from Ticketless Travellers

As many as 99,055 train passengers were booked for ticketless travel and carrying unbooked luggage within the limits of the Vijayawada Railway Division in June 2014.  An amount of Rs 2,87,36,000 was collected as fine.

VIJAYAWADA: As many as 99,055 train passengers were booked for ticketless travel and carrying unbooked luggage within the limits of the Vijayawada Railway Division in June 2014.  An amount of Rs 2,87,36,000 was collected as fine.

According to a press note here Thursday, 90 passengers, who failed to pay the fine, were prosecuted. The services of all ticket checking squads, incharge supervisors, RPF and GRP personnel were utilised for the purpose.

The press note also said that a cleanliness drive was taken up all over the division. As many as 1,441 cases of littering the Railway premises were booked and an amount of Rs 2,88,200 was collected as fine from the offenders. The checks will continue in the future, the press note added.
