YSR Congress Claims Three Civic Chief Posts in Krishna

Elections for chairman and vice-chairman posts for five municipalities and three nagara panchayats in Krishna district came to an end with TDP winning in five places and YSR Congress in the other three.

MACHILIPATNAM: Elections for chairman and vice-chairman posts for five municipalities and three nagara panchayats in Krishna district came to an end with TDP winning in five places and YSR Congress in the other three.

The elections in Machilipatnam started off on a grand note Thursday. Special officer of the municipality, additional joint collector B L Chennakesava Rao, presided over the swearing-in of the 42 ward council members.

In the elections conducted later, 38th ward councilor P Subramanyam proposed Motamarri Baba Prasad’s name for the chairman post and he was elected unanimously later. P Kasi Viswanath, councillor of the fifth ward, was elected vice-chairman. Baba Prasad said that he would strive for development of Machilipatnam and sought the support of officials. Excise and BC welfare minister Kollu Ravindra congratulated the chairman and vice-chairman and said that drinking water and drainage problems should be solved.

TDP won the Machilipatnam, Pedana municipalities and the Vuyyuru, Tiruvuru and Nandigama nagara panchayats, apart from succeeding in Vijayawada Municipal Corporation. YSR Congress managed to succeed in Gudivada, Nuzivid and Jaggaiahpet municipalities. K Sridhar was unanimously elected Vijayawada mayor and Gogula Ramana Rao as the deputy mayor.

Yalavarthi Srinivas and Adapa Venkata Ramana won the chairman and vice-chairman posts respectively of Gudivada municipality. While Tanneru Nageswara Rao and Md Akbar won as chairman and vice-chairman in Jaggaiahpet, Basava Revathi and Anne Mamatha were elected chairman and vice-chairman of Nuzvid nagara panchayat. Y Seshagiri Rao and Abdul Khayyum won the Pedana chairman and vice-chairman posts.

M Krishna Kumari and S Venkata Narasimha Rao won the chairman and vice-chairman posts in Tiruvuru nagara panchayat. The Vuyyuru nagara pachayat J Poornachandra Rao and Y Padmavathi were elected chairmen and vice-chairperson respectively. In the Nandigama nagara panchayat, Tummala Srinivas Babu and V Ashok Kumar were elected chairman and vice-chairmen respectively.
