VISAKHAPATNAM: Lalam Bhavani, Shobha Swati Rani and Choudhari Dhanalakshmi of Telugu Desam Party have been unanimously elected as the chairpersons of Zilla Praja Parishads of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam respectively. The elections for the chairperson and vice-chairperson posts of the ZPPs were conducted Saturday, as per the orders of the State Election Commission. The TDP announced its chairperson candidates even before the general elections.
In Visakhapatnam district, there were 39 ZPTCs, of which the TDP bagged 25 and the YSR Congress secured 15 seats. Senior TDP leader Lalam Bhaskara Rao’s wife and Rambilli ZPTC member L Bhavani, and Ananatagiri ZPTC member K Apparao filed the nominations for chairperson and vice-chairperson posts respectively. The collector announced that both were elected unanimously.
After taking charge, Bhavani said that she would lead the ZPP by taking the suggestions of the senior leaders and officials. Panchayat raj minister Chintakayala Ayyannapatrudu and education minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao congratulated the new chairperson. In Vizianagaram district, Telugu Mahila wing state president Shobha Hymavathi’s daughter and Vepada ZPTC member Shobha Swati Rani was unanimously elected as the chairperson and Garividi ZPTC member B Krishna Murthy as the vice-chairman. As there were no second nominations for the posts, presiding officer and collector Kantilal Dande announced that the duo was elected unanimously. After assuming charge, Swati signed on issuing of one new borewell in each mandal.
Out of 34 ZPTCs in the district, the TDP won 24 and the YSRC secured 10 seats. Except for Dattirajeru mandal ZPTC member Appala Kondamma, the YSRC ZPTCs did not participate in the special general body meeting. In Srikakulam district, senior TDP leader Choudhary Babjee’s wife and Etcherla ZPTC member Ch Dhanalakshmi, and Veeraghattam ZPTC member Khandapu Jyothi were elected as chairperson and vice-chairperson respectively. Of the 38 ZPTCs in the district, the TDP won 22 and YSRC secured 16 seats.
Incharge collector G Veerapandiyan announced that they were elected unanimously. Minister K Acchan Naidu and several MLAs participated in the special meeting and congratulated the new chairperson. On the occasion, the TDP took out a rally in the town.
