Fire Department to recruit 126 Firemen, 16 Officers Soon to Boost Performance

VIJAYAWADA: All vacant posts in the Fire Department will be filled soon, according to director general of fire N Sambasiva Rao.

Addressing a meeting at the Regional Fire Office here Monday, Sambasiva Rao said that the Fire Department would recruit 126 firemen and 16 senior fire officers through various agencies. He said the department was renamed as Disaster Control and Fire Services Department.

Stating that a state-level officer would be present at Vijayawada for two days from August 1 to inspect the proceedings of the department, he said Rs 25 crore was allotted to carry out construction works. Vulnerable areas would be identified and a plan would be devised to prevent disasters in these areas.

Sambasiva Rao clarified that there was no dearth of funds for taking up works in the department. The staff was being trained to prevent loss of life during natural calamities.

He said the state fire stations central godown was located at Guntur and all essential safety guards would be supplied from there. He said measures were being taken to equip all the fire stations with latest tools. A special report would be prepared on the Nagaram incident.
