AP Prepares 10-point Plan for 24-hour Power Supply

The Andhra Pradesh government has prepared a ten-point formula for round-the-clock power supply for all to ensure quality, reliable and affordable power supply to the consumers.

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh government has prepared a ten-point formula for round-the-clock power supply for all to ensure quality, reliable and affordable power supply to the consumers.

The plan,  which covers domestic, commercial and industrial power users, will be sent to the Central government soon for its ratification. After finalisation, the comprehensive report would be submitted to the Centre by July 21 for its nod. This was decided at a meeting held here on Tuesday  attended by CMDs of power distribution companies (Discoms) and other top officials of the energy utilities. Following are some of the  main points in the 10-point Formula.

Power supply position: The formula proposes to reduce the demand supply gap with precise forecast of requirements of power by all sectors duly pooling up of all possible resources.

Generation: Maximising the generation by increasing the plant load factor (PLF) from the present level of around 75 per cent to 90 per cent. For this, the power utility will keep adequate coal stocks and have coal linkages for upcoming plants. The utility will also procure additional power through short-term bids (2000 MW) for 2015-16,  through case-I bidding (25 years from 2018 onwards), for which tenders have been floated.

Transmission: The transmission capacity will be strengthened by expediting the inter-state transmission projects and by constructing new sub-stations.

Sub-transmission & Distribution: Effective distribution management by estimating the proper load growth and going for segregation of agriculture feeders in phases for providing three phase supply for domestic consumers, increasing the metered sales and collection of 100 per cent revenue.

Consumer welfare initiatives:  Discoms will establish customer care centres with toll free numbers for speedy redressal of consumers grievances like wrong bills, category change etc. IVRS will also be introduced for complaint booking.

Renewable energy:  The state government will soon come out with policies on solar and wind power. It was decided at the meeting to set up 1,000 MW solar parks in Anantapur and Guntur districts. APTransco is also contemplating to call bids for 1,000 MW solar power plant.Energy efficiency: Power utilities will take up major energy conservation & energy efficiency projects in association with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL).
