Transport Officials to Use Latest Tech to Get Vehicle Info

Intranet data SIM cards helps officials access vehicle info from any place

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVIs) can now easily access all the details of a particular vehicle from any place, without the need to view their office computers, with the help of intranet data SIM cards inserted in their smart phones. Earlier, the MVIs had to check the database in their office computers to verify the documents of a vehicle.

The new technology helps the MVIs obtain information about a vehicle like its past violations, penalty, tax dues and various due dates of the permissions. “The department has issued as many as 60 group data SIM cards to its staff including RTOs, AOs, MVIs, AMVIs and even some of the senior assistants. These help save time of both the officials and vehicle owners through on-the-spot verification of the details,” deputy transport commissioner Prabhu Raj Kishore has said.

However, for now, information about dues on taxes, if any, is only available over the smart phones. Unless the vehicle owner updates permits and insurance details, these cannot be accessed, he added.
