A first year student of Krishnaveni Engineering College at Narasaraopeta in Guntur district, reportedly killed herself by consuming poison in the college hostel here Tuesday.

GUNTUR: A first year student of Krishnaveni Engineering College at Narasaraopeta in Guntur district, reportedly killed herself by consuming poison in the college hostel here Tuesday.

According to Narsaraopet (rural) police, the victim, identified as C Himapriya (17), was found dead in her hostel room by the college management on Tuesday morning.

Narsaraopet sub-inspector (SI) Ramesh said that the college officials went to Himapriya’s room to find out why she did not attend the class, but found her dead in her room. The reason for the suicide were not yet known, he said. A case has been registered under Section 174 (suspicious death) of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

50-yr-old Man booked for molesting granddaughter

Vijayawada: A 50-year-old man molested his 10-year-old granddaughter at his residence in Ajit Singh Nagar here Tuesday. According to police, a woman of New Rajarajeswaripet lodged a complaint against her father, alleging that he had sexually abused her daughter. It is said that the man continued to misbehave with the girl, even after repeated warnings from his daughter and wife. A case has been registered against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act. Investigation is on.
