VIJAYAWADA: Entrepreneurs have stressed the need for Vijayawada to emerge as a world-class city that provides employment and business opportunities to all. Speaking at a workshop organised by the Institution of Engineers (IEI) on ‘New Business Opportunities and Challenges in and around Vijayawada Post-bifurcation’, several successful businessmen hailing from the city explained about the advantages of the place observed that innovative ways have to be followed to utilise the available resources and opportunities. 

Efftronics chairman D Ramakrishna said that it is the best time for Vijayawada to prove its worth and emerge as a world-class city which can provide employment and business opportunities to all. He said that branding of Vijayawada as a city with all facilities and comforts has to be propagated across the globe to attract world-class talent, new industries and investment.

Successful entrepreneurs belonging to various fields attended the workshop and made presentations about the opportunities available in and around Vijayawada in various sectors like IT, textiles, education, tourism and food processing among others.

T Chandrashekar Rao, MD of Vilan Group of Companies highlighted the occasion that AP could become an ideal destination for textile industry if the government paid better attention to it. Cultivation of cotton, availability of spinning mills between southern and northern parts of India and seashore are the features which will be advantageous for the state. Saying that here is a huge scope for textile industry to grow as India accounts for just 4 per cent of export market all over the world, Chandrashekar Rao urged the youth and the new entrepreneurs to focus on the field for employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.

Though Vijayawada and its surroundings have many advantages and features which no other place offers, lack of social infrastructure and proper publicity are acting as bottlenecks in the city emerging as a metropolis, pointed out Vijayawada CII chairman VVM Krishna on the occasion. He said that local people and decision-makers should come out of Tier II city mentality and strive to make Vijayawada a Tier I city.

Profit Shoe Company MD B Koteswara Rao, Fortune Murali Park MD M Murali Krishna, Kusalava MD RK Prasad, IEI Vijayawada chairman P Ravindra Babu, AP Unaided Schools Association secretary and correspondent of MK Gandhi Public School B Ravi Prasad were among others who participated in the workshop attended by engineering students, young entrepreneurs and others.
