VISAKHAPATNAM: Various educational institutions in the city on Friday paid rich tributes to physicist Sir CV Raman on the occasion of his 126th birth anniversary.

Mrs. AVN College chairman and incharge district collector Praveen Kumar, vice-chairperson A Indrani Jagga Rao, correspondent AV Adeep Bhanoji Row, principal Vedula Perraju, staff and students garlanded CV Raman’s bronze statue erected on the college premises. Praveen Kumar recalled the achievements of the Nobel Laureate, who excelled not only in science and technology but also in social economic and political areas. “Education will be complete only if it is blended with human values,” he stressed.

GITAM University vice-chancellor G Subrahmanyam garlanded the bust of the physicist at GITAM Institute of Science CV Raman Bhawan. Registrar M Potharaju, Institute of Science principal N Lakshmandas, Institute of Technology principal K Lakshmiprasad, School of Law director Y Satyanarayana and UGC Affairs director Ch Ramakrishna accompanied him.

Addressing the students on the occasion, Subrahamanyam lauded the exemplary and path-breaking research of Sir CV Raman in physics. “The Indian scientist community looks up to his accomplishments, especially in science and technology, even as his contributions inspire the younger generation alike,” he observed. The GITAM University was actively involved in 160 research projects and submitted around 50 new proposals, he added.
