VIJAYAWADA: As the demand for Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) professionals is rising in the IT industry, it is emerging as a promising field which offers jobs to engineering and other techno-savvy graduates with sound knowledge of computers and analytical skills.
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the process of augmenting the visibility of a website or a web page in search results. SEO is one of the various activities which are part of designing, developing and promotion of web content.
“In the context of knowledge explosion these days, SEO is necessary for every website whether it provides content or represents an organisation or a person. A website with the best SEO, will be ranked high on Google search results and will have good visibility. To put it simply, if someone searches for the best engineering colleges in India, many websites will appear. But the website, which has the best SEO, will appear on the top of search result, thus getting most number of visitors and visibility,” explained M Sai Ram, managing director of Websamrat Technologies, Guntur.
Dean, faculty of engineering, Acharya Nagarjuna University, Prof E Srinivasa Reddy, said, “The present job market needs different skill sets and abilities and the youth have to equip themselves with these requirements to stand a better chance of gaining. SEO is a promising field and we at ANU are creating awareness about it among students.”
Every web designing and development company has the requirement for SEO professionals who are also an indispensable part of the new media organisations.
“Anyone with average skills in English language and knowledge of internet can learn SEO. Besides English and IT skills, if a person has analytical and creative skills, they can excel as SEO professionals,” explained Sai Ramesh, CEO of an IT company who also trains youth in SEO and recruits them. In Vijayawada, opportunities are gradually increasing for SEO professionals. But in cities like Hyderabad, Bangalore and Mumbai there is great demand for them.
According to IT industry analysts, while SEO professionals may get a start-up salary of about `10,000 in Vijayawada, in cities like Hyderabad and Bangalore they may be offered anywhere between `20,000 and `30,000. Many software companies in Vijayawada are offering SEO training for free and even the IT companies have included SEO course as a part of their training after recruiting students from various colleges and universities.
“I underwent SEO training after I have fared well in an aptitude test for English language skills. Within two months, I found a job at a web development company,” said Sasi Datta, a B.Tech graduate from Vijayawada.
