Three Robbers Held

AMALAPURAM: Three miscreants made a vain bid to steal a cash bag containing `25 lakh from a person at Erra Vantena here Wednesday. However, they were caught by the police near Mahipalacheruvu after a high-speed chase.

According to the police, Y Venu Madhav was running an aquaculture shop. He withdrew `25 lakh from Axis Bank in the city Wednesday and was proceeding to Mummidivaram on his bike. Observing him carry a cash bag, three miscreants followed Venu Madhav in a Maruthi Swift car (bearing Chennai registration number). At Erra Vantena, they suddenly opened the car door, snatched the cash bag from him and tried to flee.

An alert Venu shouted for help listening to which a few motorists and policemen chased the trio. Taken aback by the development, the miscreants threw away the cash bag on the road at Bhatnavilli, but kept `5 lakh with them. However, the police caught hold of them and seized the amount. The cops suspect that the accused belonged to Tamil Nadu.
