70 pc Polling in Nandigama Bypoll

VIJAYAWADA: Polling in the byelection to the Nandigama Assembly constituency passed off peacefully Saturday. Nearly 70 per cent of the voters exercised their franchise.

District officials ensured smooth polling in all the four mandals in Nandigama constituency. However, voting dropped by 14 per cent when compared to the figure in the previous elections to the constituency.

A total number of four candidates contested the elections. The main fight is between TDP and the Congress but the former is tipped to emerge victorious.

Meanwhile, irrigation minister Devineni Umamaheshwara Rao expressed the confidence that the TDP candidate would win the byelection. “Our party will win with a huge majority and this will definitely be an eye opener to the Congress,” he asserted.
