VISAKHAPATNAM: The removal of B Prem Kumar Reddy, principal and correspondent of Marvel School, has triggered a massive protest by the students, teachers and parents in front of the school at Gajuwaka in Visakhapatnam Monday. The officials of the education and police departments pacified the students and started investigation into the issue.
About 200 protesters alleged that former MLA and YSRC leader Tippala Gurumurthy Reddy had brought pressure on the school management for sacking the principal to settle scores with him.
Some members of the Arya Educational Society appointed Rami Reddy as the principal and correspondent, replacing Prem Kumar Reddy who held the post for over 22 years. Members of the society, along with Rami Reddy and some outsiders, went to the school and announced their decision to replace Prem Kumar Reddy with Rami Reddy who is also a member. They alleged that Prem Kumar Reddy was taking several decisions including replacement of members of the school board without consulting the other members of the Arya Education Society which runs the school.
Angered by the sudden development, students and teachers came in support of Prem Kumar Reddy who maintains a good rapport with them. They opposed the entry of outsiders into the school premises. Some parents, who came to know about the issue, joined the protest which lasted for over three hours. Police rushed to the spot after passersby informed them about the situation. Traffic came to a standstill for three hours in the area. To bring down tempers, the cops sent away members of both the parties from the spot.
DEO M Venkata Krishna Reddy asked MEO CRK Devarayal to go into the issue and submit a report. Devarayal later held discussions with members of the school board as well as the students and convinced them to settle the issue peacefully without denting the image of the 26-year-old school.
“Lack of mutual understanding between the two parties has led to the dispute. We have recorded the statements of both the parties and the same would be submitted to the DEO. Necessary action will be initiated against the people responsible for the unrest in the school to ensure peace on the campus,” he added.
