VISAKHAPATNAM: “We deployed 60 per cent of the city police for solving the sensational kidnap case involving nine-year-old schoolboy K Damodar. It was a pre-planned crime hatched by the accused for ransom,” in-charge commissioner of police Atul Singh has said.
Producing the accused before the media here Tuesday, Atul Singh said that K Kesava Rao (32) of Srikakulam and his relative K Chadrasekhar (23), were residing in Pendurthi. They thought of making easy money by kidnapping financier K Srinivas Rao’s son. They also involved a minor to carry out the plan and befriended Damodar with sweet-talking before kidnapping him on Sep 8.
However, the phone calls made by the abductors served as important clues since cops were deployed near all coin box phones. Finally, the police caught one of the kidnappers on Sept 15, near a coin box phone, who spilled the beans and led the cops to a house atop the hill near Pendurthi where the boy was hidden, Atul Singh revealed.
Kesava Rao was involved in a murder case in Srikakulam where a DC sheet was also filed against him. He was shifted to Vizag later, but the same was not reported to the police. If there had been proper intimation, the case could have been solved earlier, Atul Singh said. The police recovered two mobile phones and a knife from the accused. A manhunt was launched to nab the absconding minor.
