Gang Injures Family, Escapes with Rs 5 L Booty

VIJAYAWADA: A gang has struck at a house and attacked the inmates in the city and escaped with cash and other valuables, all worth about `5 lakh. The incident occurred at Kalpataruvu Colony at Rayanapadu under Ibrahimpatnam police station limits in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The injured family members, identified as K Suresh, owner of a book depot, his wife Jayanthi, daughter Yasodha and son Teja Santosh, are undergoing treatment in a private hospital and their condition is said to be stable. According to sources, five of the gang members gained entry after they broke open the doors and injured the family members with stones.

The robbers even tied the hands and legs of all the four with ropes and looted the house as they struggled.

The incident came to light only after the maid servant came to the house Tuesday morning. City police commissioner AB Venkateswara Rao, DCPs Tafsir Iqbal and Ashok Kumar and other officials visited the spot and said that they would nab the robbers soon.
