VISAKHAPATNAM: Panchayat raj minister Ch Ayyanna Patrudu, who visited the accident spot, directed the police, GVMC, labour department and other officials concerned to probe the incident and assured the victims’ families of taking stringent action against the persons responsible for the mishap. District collector N Yuvaraj, who accompanied the minister, said that a criminal case would be registered on the builders and the site engineer, who were not present at the site when the incident occurred.
Meanwhile, victims’ family members demanded that the police arrest the builders and site engineers immediately. They also demanded compensation to the bereaved families.
Later in the evening, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced an ex-gratia of `2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased workers.
