VISAKHAPATNAM: A pall of gloom descended on the VIP Road here Thursday and heartbreaking scenes were witnessed following the wall collapse incident, which claimed the lives of four workers. The family members and relatives of the deceased along with the other workers at the construction site were inconsolable at the loss of their beloved.
For Lakshmi, mother of two young daughters, no amount of consolation could fill the void left behind by her husband A Someswara Rao, who died in the mishap. Though a daily wage labourer, Someswara Rao was able to make both ends meet and even managed to pay the school fee of his daughters. With his sudden death, Lakshmi, a homemaker, is clueless about the future of her family. Stricken with grief, she even lost consciousness at one point.
Panchayat raj minister Ch Ayyanna Patrudu and district collector N Yuvaraj visited the accident site and tried to console the mourners. Though the minister announced compensation for the bereaved families, he failed to give hope to the families which lost their breadwinners.
Even as the other labourers demanded the officials to grant immediate monetary compensation to the bereaved families, Lakshmi was seen pleading for nothing but bringing her husband back alive.
