SRIKAKULAM: Collector Gaurav Uppal has directed the BC Welfare officer to prepare proposals to shift the Backward Classes Girls’ Hostel in the town to a new premises.

The collector, who made a surprise visit to the hostel Saturday, was aghast at the poor maintenance of the hostel. There are 260 hostelers living there. During his visit, the collector found rainwater  seepage from the ceiling of the building. The girls told the collector that there were not enough toilets and Uppal assured them he would initiate action to solve all their problems immediately.

Later, speaking to the media, Uppal said that a meeting would be convened with the wardens of BC welfare hostels to address all the problems in the hostels.
