VIJAYAWADA: Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said that he has chosen Vijayawada-Guntur as the capital for the truncated Andhra Pradesh as, according to him, development takes place on the peripherals of the existing cities like in the case of Hyderabad which has developed into a mega city. He also announced that the area that falls under the VGTM-UDA will be developed into a mega city.

Addressing a programme after rededicating the DD Saptagiri channel to the people of Andhra Pradesh, he said that henceforth all major programmes would be organised in Vijayawada and added that a huge rally would be taken out through the streets of Vijayawada on October 2 as part of ‘Swachha Bharat’ programme. He also said that disbursal of enhanced pensions would be launched soon.

Reiterating that a mega city would be built by merging Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali-Mangalagiri, he said, “We will build such a beautify capital city that everybody feels proud of it,” and appealed to the farmers (land owners) to cooperate with the government in building the capital city. He also cautioned them not to increase the land prices according to their wish. Naidu also assured the Doordarshan and the All India Radio  officials of all help in upgrading their Kendras here by providing land and other benefits. He, however, asked them to acquire new technology and also produce programmes that would reflect the Telugu culture.

Speaking on the developments in the media industry, he said that there was a need to use the social media platform and added that there was no major impact on the print media with the advent of electronic media. He also appreciated the officials for naming the All India Radio station, Vijayawada, after Pingali Venkaiah, the designer of the National Flag.
