Gangrape Accused Booked Under Nirbhaya Act

VISAKHAPATNAM: Reacting to the incident of the appalling gangrape of Intermediate student of Kuritipenti village in Gajapathinagaram, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu ordered the officials to take strict action against the accused by booking them under the Nirbhaya Act.

He also insisted on extending support to the victim and her family in all possible ways, including the girl’s education. The five accused - K Prasanna Kumar, Sivaji Nayak, P Jitender, B Bhanu Prasad, K Srikanth - were produced in the second additional district civil and sessions court in Vizianagaram Monday. The victim was reportedly gangraped earlier too by Sivaji and his friends four months ago. Sivaji clicked photos of hers while she was bathing, and blackmailed her stating that he would upload them online. The girl surrendered herself, and finally revealed the matter to her parents, who lodged a complaint with the police on Sunday. Police arrested the five on Monday and booked them under the Nirbhaya Act, SC/ST Atrocity Act, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and IT Act.

Meanwhile, ZP chairperson Sobha Swathi Rani, Gajapathinagaram MLA KA Naidu and TDP leader Sobha Hymavathi Monday visited the victim, who is under going treatment at a private hospital. They promised her a house and help with her higher education.
