Cabinet Nod to IIM-Vizag, Five Others

HYDERABAD/NEW DELHI:The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the proposal to set up six new IIMs, including one at Visakhapatnam, in the country. The move comes days after Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani had laid the foundation for an IIM at Gambheeram area in Visakhapatnam.

The five other IIMs will come up at Bodh Gaya (Bihar), Sirmaur (Himachal Pradesh), Nagpur (Maharashtra), Sambalpur (Odisha) and Amritsar (Punjab). All these IIMs will start from the current academic year itself with an initial intake of 140 students for the coveted post-graduate course.

The classes of IIM-Vizag will be conducted at the AU campus till infrastructure is in place at the over 300-acre campus at Gambeeram area. “It is expected that the annual intake will increase to reach a level of 560 students by the end of 7 years,” the government said.
