HYDERABAD: The two sibling States launched two projects, in an attempt to bring solace to the rural folks in the drought-prone region. While Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme to interlink River Godavari with river Krishna at Ferry village in Ibrahimpatnam mandal of Krishna district, Telangana Panchayat Raj minister K T Rama Rao unveiled the pylon of the State’s prestigious water grid project in Mahbubnagar, hoping to end the woes of the water-starved district.
Unveiling the pylon of the water grid project on Wednesday, Telangana Panchayat Raj minister KT Rama Rao said that his department will strive to complete the works under the Elluru segment in two years.
“Though the proposed works are to be completed in three years, we will ensure that the works are completed in two years,” Rama Rao said addressing the gathering at Pandirigadda near Jadcherla.
The Elluru segment will provide drinking water to people of 12 Assembly constituencies in Mahbubnagar district and also to some parts of Rangareddy district.
Rama Rao said the TRS government was undertaking a Herculean task to quench the thirst of rural Telangana.
“We have a share of 1,200 tmc water in Krishna and Godavari. We are using 40 tmc to provide drinking water to the people. For this, we are laying 1.5 lakh kilometre pipeline, taking up construction of 18,000 tanks and 60 water treatment plants across the State,” Rama Rao said.
Rama Rao also lashed out at the previous governments for depriving Mahbubnagar district of livelihood opportunities and forcing people to migrate to Mumbai in search of livelihood.
Describing it as the first step towards making Andhra Pradesh a drought-free State, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu said it was a momentous occasion for everyone in the region.
Smearing his forehead with the clay from the confluence point of Godavari and Krishna rivers after performing puja to welcome River Godavari to the Krishna, a jubilant Naidu told the gathering that they were witnessing an historic event by attending the event.
“We want to have all the rivers interlinked so every region, every household and every field will get water,” said Naidu.
