Undavalli ridicules CM's 'no-bandh' appeal

HYDERABAD: Former MP Undavalli Aruna Kumar, known for his political punches, made a quick retort to CM Chandrababu Naidu’s remark that observing bandh to exert pressure on Centre would cause inconvenience to people, by recalling various shutdown calls given by the TDP in Telangana in the recent past.

Taking strong exception to the comments made by Naidu that there was no need for giving a bandh call on August 2 as a state-wide shutdown would cause inconvenience to people, the political veteran tried to pay the TDP boss back in his own coin.

In  a letter written to Naidu on Sunday, Aruna Kumar said, “Whether it is good or bad, bandh has become an expression of protest in democracy.”

“I was surprised when you were explaining to mediapersons about the ill-effects of a bandh. But, we are regularly watching the TDP  giving bandh calls in Telangana. What about this?”

Aruna also recalled that when the TDP boss was arrested by Maharashtra police, during an agitation on Babli issue way back in 2010, the TDP had called for a state-wide shutdown in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh.

“Hence, I request you to support the proposed bandh to be observed on August 2 so as to make it a success so that the Union government in Delhi will understand the seriousness of the special status Issue,” Aruna Kumar told Naidu in his letter.
