Polavaram stopped in absence of green nod

VIJAYAWADA: At a time when relations between the BJP and TDP are  straining, here comes another blow. Construction work of the Polavaram project has been stopped for the last one month due to the ‘Stop Work Order’ issued by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

Interestingly, the State government has not requested the ministry to extend environmental clearance for the project. The issue came to light when the ministry tabled an answer in the Rajya Sabha in response to a question posed by TG Venkatesh on Tuesday.

Union minister for environment, forest and climate change Anil Madhav Dave informed the House that the AP government made no request for extension of environmental clearance. The ministry’s orders keeping in abeyance the ‘Stop Work Order’ expired on July 3 this year.
