AP Group II exam to have prelims test too

HYDERABAD: AFTER doing away with the practice of holding interviews, the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to introduce a prelims and mains system even for Group-II exams, akin to the pattern for Group-I services.

It has also accorded permission to the AP Public Service Commission (APPSC) to conduct the main examination online. As per the new guidelines, candidates appearing for Group-II exams have to take two examinations: a screening test and the main examination. According to officials of APPSC, this will help reduce the number of candidates appearing for the mains.

The screening test will be conducted for 150 marks and the mains will be conducted for 450 marks.

The screening test syllabus for Group-II services will include current affairs, Constitution of India with emphasis on federalism, fundamental rights, fundamental duties, Union and state governments, judiciary, judicial review, local government, directive principles of state policy, Union and state legislature, administration and legislative relations between Union and state governments, Scheduled and Tribal Area Administration.

The syllabus will also include economy in medieval India, pre-Independence Indian economy, development plans and economic and industrial policies of independent India, liberalization, privatisation, globalisation, labour policies of Union and state governments, role of agriculture and green revolution in India, economic disparities between regions and population categories, according to an order issued here on Wednesday.
